How health insurance works in Connecticut

Connecticut does not use HealthCare.gov. It runs its own marketplace, Access Health CT, and for 2026 kept enrollment open through the end of January rather than the mid-December federal cutoff. Roughly 157,000 residents are covered through it, and about 80% get a premium tax credit — so for most people above the HUSKY line, the real monthly cost is what's left after the subsidy.

The 2026 carriers are Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and ConnectiCare. The state's care is concentrated in a few large systems — Hartford HealthCare and Trinity Health Of New England around the capital, Yale New Haven Health along the shoreline and into Fairfield County, and Nuvance in the northwest — and no single plan holds all of them, so the network is the decision, not the logo.

We're licensed in Connecticut and enroll people directly through Access Health CT. Below is how coverage works here, plus the metros and situations we help with most — the self-employed, families, and early retirees who are above the HUSKY line and paying their own way.

Your marketplace

Connecticut runs its own exchange, Access Health CT, on its own platform — not HealthCare.gov — and set a longer window for 2026 that ran through January 31.

Subsidies & savings

Connecticut expanded Medicaid, so HUSKY covers adults up to 138% of the poverty line and marketplace subsidies generally begin just above that floor.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered plainly.

Don't see yours? Call a licensed agent — most answers take under two minutes.

Is Access Health CT the same as HealthCare.gov?

No. Connecticut runs its own marketplace, Access Health CT, on its own platform. We're licensed in Connecticut and enroll you there directly, at no extra cost, and can also show you private off-exchange options it doesn't list.

What's the cheapest health insurance in Connecticut?

For most people above the HUSKY line it's a subsidized Access Health CT plan — about 80% of enrollees get a premium tax credit, so many pay far less than the sticker premium. We compare your options for your exact ZIP and income.

Does Connecticut sell short-term health plans?

Effectively no — state rules require these plans to meet standards that make them unmarketable, so insurers don't sell them here. For a gap in coverage we'll look at a subsidized marketplace plan or a special enrollment period instead.

Does it cost anything to use Health Enrollment Center?

No. We're a licensed insurance agency paid by the carriers, not by you. The premium of any plan is identical whether you enroll through us or directly with the insurer — you just also get an agent who handles renewals and claims questions.

Is this HealthCare.gov or a government marketplace?

No. Health Enrollment Center is a brand operated by Sprinter Insurance Agency LLC, a private licensed insurance agency. We are not HealthCare.gov, not a state exchange, and not affiliated with any government agency. We help you enroll in marketplace plans when they're the best fit, and we also show private plans the marketplace doesn't carry.
